How long does peer review take?

Editorial teams work very hard to progress papers through peer review as quickly as possible. However, it’s important to be aware that this part of the process can take some time.

The first stage is for the editor to find suitably qualified expert reviewers who are available. Given the competing demands of research life, nobody can agree to every review request they receive. It’s therefore not uncommon for a paper to go through several cycles of requests before the editor finds reviewers who are both willing and able to accept. Then those reviewers have to find time alongside their own research, teaching, and writing, to give your paper thorough consideration.

Please keep this in mind if you don’t receive a decision on your paper as quickly as you would like. If you’ve submitted your paper and would like an update on the status of your paper, please get in touch with the editor.

How do I appeal if I am not satisfied that my paper was rejected for valid reasons?

If an article is rejected by Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education the authors may appeal the decision by writing to the Journal Manager. An appeal must be justified with detailed reference to the reviewers’ comments. The Journal Manager will review the appeal in conjunction with the editorial board and decide on an appropriate course of action, which may include further reviews of the article. A publication decision may only be appealed once: further appeals will not be considered.

Do I need to disclose any conflicts of interest?

Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education requires that editors, reviewers, and authors fully disclose any conflicts of interest. Authors should disclose conflicts of interest in their manuscript. Reviewers should disclose conflicts of interest to the relevant editor. Editors should disclose conflicts of interest to the Journal Manager.

Editors are not precluded from publishing in Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education. If an editor submits an article to the journal, the Journal Manager will assign a different editor to the article who, as per usual, will be required to disclose any conflicts of interest.  The article will then be subject to the same process of peer review detailed.

I am a student, what type of paper can I submit?

We encourage student author submissions (on taught programmes including Undergraduate, Masters and PhD students) and afford them greater flexibility in submission style and length, please discuss article ideas with the editors.

Who has ownership and management responsibility?

Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education is published by the Freire Institute and is hosted with the Open Journal Systems open source software.

Is there a cost to the Author?

Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education does not charge authors for submitting or publishing articles in the journal.

Who retains Copyright/Permissions of articles?

Authors retain copyright of articles published in Pedagogia: Journal of Critical Pedagogy and Popular Education. Authors may grant others the right to share the work with an acknowledgement of the work's authorship and initial publication in this journal. Authors are able to enter into separate, additional arrangements for the non-exclusive distribution of the journal's published version of the work (e.g., post it to an institutional repository or publish it in a book), with an acknowledgement of its initial publication in this journal.

Is this an Open Access journal?
